Georges Folmer (1895-1977), avec constance, rigueur et acharnement, abandonne toute trace de figuration pour devenir l'un des maîtres de l'abstraction géométrique des années 1950-1960. Peintre, dessinateur mais également sculpteur, il explore tous les supports et développe sa création aussi dans les arts appliqués : mobilier, affiches, objet d'Art, projets de bijoux.

Trouvant également l'inspiration dans les mathématiques avec le nombre d'Or, dans la poésie et dans la musique, il élabore peu à peu un nouveau langage plastique. De Nancy à Paris, Lydia Harambourg retrace le riche et complexe parcours de Folmer, à la conquête de l'abstraction la plus pure.

Georges Folmer (1895-1977) steadfastly, rigorously and relentlessly abandoned any trace of figuration to become one of the masters of geometric abstraction between 1950 and 1960. In painting, drawing and sculpture, he explored all artistic mediums and even created works of applied art : furniture, posters, objets d'art, jewellery. Finding inspiration in the mathematical golden ratio, in poetry and in music, he gradually built a new formal language. From Nancy to Paris, Lydia Harambourg retraces Folmer's rich and complex artistic path, toward the conquest of the purest abstraction.
